Where are Cyberjammies made?
India. We own two factories, one in Bilimora and another in Navsari. Both located in the state of Gujarat, several hours north of Mumbai on the west coast. Our head office in India is located in Mumbai.
How long have we owned the factories?
In excess of 20 years.
How many people do you employ in each factory?
179 in Bilimora, 188 in Navsari. In total, 138 men and 229 women.
Do you treat your workers fairly, do they receive adequate salaries?
Yes, on both counts.
Our factory workers are paid over 60% more than the minimum wage. In addition, they receive significant additional benefits. Payments over and above legal pension requirements are made, annually. Workers also receive a Diwali bonus once a year depending on the performance of the company. Every worker and three of their dependents are covered by medical insurance. Audits cover a wide range of topics ranging from:
- Universal human rights
- Management systems and ethical code implementation
- Assessing if employment is freely chosen
- Safety and hygiene conditions
- Child Labour
- Living wages and benefits
- Working hours.
Our factories were audited as recently as January 2021. Here were some of the summary comments from the auditors:
- No negative comments received from the workers against the management.
- No walk outs / strikes have taken place in the factory till date.
- Workers confirmed that the factory does not hire any child labour.
- It was observed that all the workers are freely working in the factory
- Workers are happy with the present workplace facilities / conditions in the factory.
- Workers confirmed that overtime work is voluntary basis.
- They also confirmed that they receive wages on monthly basis by bank transfer.
- Workers are satisfied with the attitude of the management towards them.
The auditors summarised factory management as follows:
- Attitude of the management was found positive towards the audit & audit process.
- The facility was found aware with the requirements of a social audit.
- The management was very transparent and cooperative during audit.
- The management was receptive to the findings and was very keen to implement all the measures to achieve compliance in their facility.
We take our responsibilities as employers and producers of clothing seriously.
What about your suppliers of raw materials, trims and accessories? How do you ensure they are also working to the same standards and taking their responsibilities seriously as both employers and in their consumption of raw materials?
We choose our main supply partners carefully based on a raft of requirements in addition to their quality of fabrics including their working conditions and attitude to their impact on the planet. We also issue our supply base with the same ETI requirements that we work to and are audited to prove that we have taken that action. Our two biggest fabric partners are Mataflal Industries and Morargee Textiles. We have added links to the specific certifications they have achieved as businesses. You will see that they take their responsibilities just as seriously as we do.
What other initiatives have you taken to reduce your impact on the planet?
One of our factories uses solar energy, the other factory has solar energy being installed this year.
We have our own water treatment plant to ensure that we reduce water pollution.
What about packaging? How much plastic do you use? What about biodegradable materials?
When you receive your order from us you will notice there is no plastic. That is deliberate. We want to reduce the amount of plastics used throughout our supply chain. We do still use some plastic packaging in parts of the process, but we are working hard to eradicate its use totally from the start of the process to the end.
How sustainable are your products?
We are constantly striving to find the right balance between amazing quality, soft, and long-lasting nightwear, with sustainability and ethically sourced materials. Our latest partnership with Marargee will see us using predominantly BCI Cotton/Modal blended fabrics from Spring/Summer 2022. What is BCI Cotton? BCI stands for Better Cotton Initiative. BCI is a global not-for-profit organisation and the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world.
