Cotton vs Modal
One question we're often asked is whether our nightwear is made from 100% cotton. In most cases, the honest answer is no - we tend to favour a Modal blend instead. That's not because we have anything against pure cotton fabrics, we do create select pieces in 100% cotton. However, our journey at Cyberjammies has taught us there's a better way of using fabrics to create the kind of nightwear we truly believe in.
What is Modal?
We tend to use modal blended with cotton. We realise many of our customers may not be familiar with modal and a quick google search will reveal that it’s made from wood pulp, which may sound like an unusual fabric to use, instead of natural cotton. But we assure you, it makes our product not only soft, but sustainable!
Why use Modal?
Modal was created in the 1960s by Lenzing, an Austrian company making it for over 75 years. It's a cellulosic fibre - meaning it's derived from a natural source, mainly Beechwood pulp - though processed similarly to synthetic fibres like nylon. Being plant-based, it uses fewer resources than many materials, plus it's wonderfully soft and cosy. The production process and chemicals are eco-friendly too!
What makes our fabric so special?
Comfort & flow - One of our favourite things about our fabric is its ultra comfy feel. It's soft, light, flexible, breathable, and drapes beautifully without creasing or shrinking - everything you'd want for a great night's sleep. Its naturally cool, breathable nature is perfect for nightwear, and there's not much worse than feeling hot and uncomfortable at night. Many customers with irritated skin or eczema tell us the gentle, cool feel of our modal blend really helps.
Beautiful shine - Our modal fabric has a subtle lustre, giving your nightwear a luxurious look.
Bright colours - We love bold prints and bright colours here at Cyberjammies! Modal takes colour brilliantly, offering real depth of shade rather than the flatter look often associated with pure cotton or linen.
Quality & Sustainability
It stands the test of time– Those beautiful colours we talked about earlier are here to stay because modal fabrics not only take colour very well, they hold onto it too. This means that even after repeated washing and tumble drying, pyjamas with modal content will still look great. It has really low shrinkage rates in comparison to its natural competitors. Modal is also a bit of a tough cookie and is unlikely to break down through wash and wear.
It’s Environmentally friendly– Modal is made from sustainable wood pulp and produced using environmentally friendly chemical processes. Modal is also compostable and biodegradable making it one of the kindest fabrics to our environment. If you add that it also has a tendency to last longer than some of its rivals, modal really does make a great ethical choice.
MTick-Certified
Our MTick-certified styles are made from breathable fabrics like cotton and modal, chosen specifically for their moisture-wicking properties and their naturally soft, gentle feel against the skin. When night sweats and temperature changes make sleep difficult, fabric really matters. The MTick exists to help women identify trusted menopause friendly products, in our case menopause friendly fabrics. A product displaying the MTick means the fabric used has been certified as having met strict compliance criteria, including clinical and scientific evidence that it can support with one or more of the 48 signs of menopause.
