Kids Cooling Nighttime Routines for Better Sleep in Summer

There’s nothing quite like summer with little ones. Days are filled with paddling pools, park adventures and ice creams that somehow end up everywhere except in their mouths. But when bedtime rolls around and the house is still holding onto the day's heat, getting children settled can feel like one last challenge before you finally get to put your feet up.
The good news? A few simple tweaks to their bedtime routine can help keep everyone a little cooler - and hopefully lead to a more peaceful night's sleep (for you, and them).

Start with a Lukewarm Bath

After a busy day in the sunshine, a lukewarm bath is the perfect way to help little bodies cool down. It might seem surprising, but it's actually more effective than a cold bath, helping children regulate their body temperature before bed while washing away the day's adventures (and the inevitable layer of sun cream and grass stains!).

Keep Pyjamas Light and Breathable

Help the Bedroom Stay Cool
Keeping bedrooms cool doesn't have to be complicated. Close curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day, then open windows once the evening air starts to cool. If you have a fan, let it keep the air circulating while your little one drifts off.

Top Up Their Fluids

After all that running, climbing and "just five more minutes" outside, it's worth encouraging one last drink of water before brushing teeth. A few slices of watermelon or some strawberries also make a refreshing pre-bed snack on particularly warm evenings.

Slow Things Down
Bedtime doesn't have to be a race. Pop on their favourite story, cuddle up for a few pages together and let the pace of the day gently fade away. A calm, predictable routine helps children relax, even when it's still a little warm outside.

Summer bedtimes might not always go exactly to plan - especially when it's still bright at 8pm - but with a cool bedroom, breathable pyjamas and a relaxing routine, everyone has a better chance of waking up refreshed and ready for another day of making the most of the sunshine. And if Mum or Dad manages to sneak in a quiet aperitivo afterwards? We'd call that a summer win too.
